VC Report, Vol. 3, No. 4: Cybersecurity Venture Capital Investments In The Latest Quarter

Startups and emerging players with fresh funding in the final three months of 2018

Toronto, Canada – Jan. 2, 2019

The fourth quarter of 2018 saw notable venture capital and private equity activity. Q4 began with news of Tanium Inc.’s $200 million funding round, which brought the cybersecurity start-up’s total valuation to $6.5 billion. The year closed with news that cybersecurity is launching into space. Cloud Constellation Corporation, a space-based cloud service provider of data security services, completed a $100 million funding round led by HCH Group Company, Ltd.

Dec. 20. Cloud Constellation Corporation announced the commitment of $100 million from HCH Group Company, Ltd. towards its Series B equity financing round.

Dec. 19. Devcon announced that it has raised $4.5 million in seed funding led by Las Olas VC.

Dec. 18. Cybeats has raised $3 million in a new financing round led by Ripple Ventures with participation from GreenSoil Building Innovation Fund, MaRS IAF, Maple Leaf Angels (MLA48 II), ScaleX, and iNovia Capital.

Dec. 18. Sentryo raised €10 million in Series A fundraising. The round was raised in two stages with four new investors: Sopra Steria, BNP Paribas Development, Omnes and Alliance Entreprendre.

Dec. 18. Egress raised $40 million in a Series C financing round led by FTV Capital, with continued participation from existing backer AlbionVC.

Dec. 17. Avanan raised $25 million in Series B funding from existing investors StageOne Ventures, Magma Venture Partners and Greenfield Partners.

Dec. 12. Tigera announced the closing of a $30 million Series B funding round led by Insight Venture Partners, with participation from existing investors Madrona, NEA, and Wing.

Dec. 11. 4iQ closed $18 million in Series B funding, led by C5 Capital and with participation by ForgePoint Capital, Adara Ventures, and Benhamou Global Ventures.

Dec. 11. KETS Quantum Security completed a £2 million funding round with investments from early stage venture fund Quantonation, together with Kx and others. The round also included £1 million provided from Innovate UK and the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

Dec. 11. Quali announced a $22.5 million Series C financing round led by Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP) and with participation from existing and new investors including Dell Ventures, Kreos Capital, Evergreen Ventures, Gemini Israel Ventures and ORR Partners.

Dec. 7. Trustology raised $8 million in a seed round led by Two Sigma Ventures, the early-stage venture capital fund of Two Sigma.

Dec. 5. CloudSEK secured $2 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by Exfinity Venture Partners and StartupXseed.

Dec. 5. Uleska raised £325,000 in investment from a combination of institutional and private investors, including Techstart NI, Clarendon Fund Managers and Denis Murphy, who will join the board of the company.

Dec. 5. Pindrop raised a $90 Series D funding round led by Vitruvian Partners, a European private equity firm, with contributions from Goldman Sachs and others.

Dec. 3. Eclypsium reported an $8.75 million funding round led by Seattle investment firm Madrona Venture Group Eclypsium with participation from existing investors Andreessen Horowitz, Ubiquity Ventures and Intel Capital.

Nov. 29. Venafi announced the closing of a $100 million round of financing, led by TCV with additional participation from existing investors, QuestMark Partners and NextEquity Partners.

Nov. 28. HYAS entered into a debt financing agreement with Silicon Valley Bank. The agreement provides up to $2 million in new capital.

Nov. 28. CyberGRX raised $30 million in a Series C funding round led by Scale Venture Partners. Existing investors Aetna Ventures, AllegisCyber, Bessemer Venture Partners, The Blackstone Group, ClearSky, GV, MassMutual Ventures, and TenEleven Ventures also participated in the round.

Nov. 27. Cybersprint raised €2M in a Series A funding round. The financing was provided by lead investor Vortex Capital Partners, returning investor InnovationQuarter, and KPN Ventures.

Nov. 27. Censys, Inc. announced a $2.6 million seed financing round led by GV and Greylock Partners.

Nov. 23. United Ventures announced a €2 million Series A funding round into EXEIN. The round represents the largest investment into Italy’s cybersecurity sector to date.

Nov. 20. Alcide.IO Ltd. announced the completion of a $7 million Series A financing round led by CE Ventures. Existing investors Intel Capital and Elron Electronic Industries Ltd. also participated.

Nov. 20. Signzy raised a Series A funding round of $3.6 million led by Stellaris Venture Partners and Kalaari Capital.

Nov. 19. ISARA Corp. announced that Silicon Valley venture capital firm Shasta Ventures led a $10 million Series A financing round for the company.

Nov. 19. ClearDATA completed a Series E financing round of $26 million. Two new strategic investors, Humana Inc. HUM and Health Care Service Corporation, participated in the funding round.

Nov. 14. Dragos raised $37 million in new venture capital. The company has raised a total of $48 million in funding to date.

Nov. 13. Cognigo announced the completion of an $8.5 million Series A round led by OurCrowd.com, with Prosegur and State of Mind Ventures.

Nov. 13. Automox closed a $9.3 million Series A investment round led by new investor TechOperators with participation from CRV, BlueNote Ventures, Tom Noonan and others.

Nov. 13. Netskope closed a $168.7M Series F funding round led by existing investor Lightspeed Venture Partners. Existing investors Accel, Geodesic Capital, Iconiq Capital, Sapphire Ventures and Social Capital participated, in addition to new investor Base Partners.

Nov. 13. XM Cyber announced that it has closed a $22 million Series A funding round with the participation of Macquarie Capital, Nasdaq Ventures, Our Innovation Fund, LP and UST Global, among others.

Nov. 8. Uniken secured $10 million in funding from a North American family office and management entity.

Nov. 7. Fraugster raised $14 million in a Series B funding round led by CommerzVentures and early Fraugster investors Earlybird, Speedinvest, Seedcamp and Rancilio Cube. Munich Re / HSB Ventures also participated.

Nov. 5. Zeguro closed $5 million in funding from a prominent group of investors, including Mosaik Partners, Healthy Ventures, Munich Re / HSB Ventures, QBE Ventures, Social Capital, Plug and Play, and Sparkland Capital.

Nov. 2. JPMorgan Chase & Co, Crosslink Capital, Bowery Capital and Polytech Ecosystem Ventures made a strategic investment in Inpher, Inc. The Series A financing round totaled $10 million.

Nov. 1. Shape Security closed a $26 million round of Series E funding led by Norwest Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins, Allegis Capital and others, including JetBlue Ventures and Singtel.

Oct. 25. Area 1 Security raised $32 million in a Series C funding round led by Kleiner Perkins with participation from Icon Ventures, DCVC, Top Tier Capital, Allegis Cyber and Epic Ventures.

Oct. 25. Arctic Wolf Networks announced that it raised $45 million in Series C funding. The round was led by Future Fund with participation from new investors Adams Street and Unusual Ventures, and existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Redpoint Ventures, Sonae Investment Management and Knollwood Investment Advisory LLC.

Oct. 25. WireWheel raised $10 million in a Series A funding round. New Enterprise Associates and PSP Growth led the round, with participation from Grotech Ventures, Sands Capital Ventures and Revolution’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund.

Oct. 22. Wallarm closed an $8 million Series A financing round led by Toba Capital, with additional participation from Y Combinator, Partech, and Gagarin Capital.

Oct. 22. Social media brand safety expert Crisp announced a $25 million investment from Baird Capital, the direct investment arm of Robert W. Baird & Co.

Oct. 18. Cybersecurity startup CYR3CON completed a $1.5 million seed financing round led by Scout Ventures.

Oct. 17.  WhiteSource announced a $35 million Series C funding round led by Susquehanna Growth Equity, with participation by existing investors 83North, M12 – Microsoft Ventures, and Peregrine Ventures.

Oct. 17. DisruptOps raised a $2.5 million seed round investment, led by Rally Ventures with participation from Cyber Security Veteran, Gary Fish, and former Sourcefire CFO Todd Headley.

Oct. 16. ZIVVER raised $12 million in a transaction led by SaaS specialist Dawn Capital with participation from DN Capital and the existing investor henQ Capital Partners.

Oct. 16. HoxHunt raised €2.5 million in a Series A financing round led by London-based Dawn Capital. The round also saw participation from existing investors Icebreaker and Risto Siilasmaa, Chairman of Nokia and Founder of F-Secure.

Oct. 16. Israeli startup Kindite raised $4 million in a seed round led by RDC, with participation from the investment fund CE Ventures.

Oct. 11. Nyotron announced that the company has entered into a strategic partnership agreement with Ingram Micro. The partnership, which includes a $10 million investment from Ingram Micro, expands on an existing relationship between Nyotron and Ingram Micro.

Oct. 10. Shujinko emerged from stealth today after raising $2.8 million in seed funding from Unusual Ventures, Defy, Vulcan Capital, PSL Ventures and Vas Ventures.

Oct. 10. Demisto announced the closing of a $43 million Series C funding round led by Greylock Partners.

Oct. 10. Privus closed a seed funding round led by Silicon Valley and New York-based Rubicon Venture Capital and by a Toronto based investment firm.

Oct. 10. Mission Secure, Inc. announced an $8 million Series A financing round led by Energy Innovation Capital (EIC) and Chevron Technology Ventures. R/GA Ventures and Macquarie Capital also participated in the financing.

Oct. 4. Randori raised $9.75 million in funding led by Accomplice, with participation from .406 Ventures and Legion Capital.

Oct. 3. Hysolate closed $18 million in Series B funding. The round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Innovation Endeavors.

Oct. 2. Tanium raised $200 million in a sale of common stock. The funding round was led by Wellington Management along with Baillie Gifford & Company and Adage Capital Management LP.
