In Jun. 2021, Lisa Spaniarman’s 81-year-old mother sent $600,000 to a scam artist overseas but claims Chase turned a blind eye to the situation. The Los Angeles Times reported on the story in 2022.

“It’s mind-numbing,” Spanierman, 53, a professor of counseling at Arizona State University, was quoted as saying at the time the incident was first covered. “I can almost understand the first time the bank authorized one of these wire transfers. But when it happens again and again, that’s just unbelievable.”

The U.S. Sun reports that while Spanierman accepted that her mother was ultimately to blame for the incident, she still requested partial restitution of lost funds from Chase as she said they did nothing to prevent the situation from happening.

Spanierman recently came on the Cybercrime Magazine Podcast to tell the full story to our editor-at-large and host Charlie Osborne.
