Generative AI: Closing The Tech Gap Between Cyber Teams And Criminals

Many security teams are unprepared for cyberattacks. New data from VikingCloud shows 55 percent of IT security leaders report modern cybercriminals are more advanced than their internal teams, writes Rick Hutchinson in a Forbes article.

It’s no longer days but minutes until an attacker can exploit a vulnerability. By 2031, a ransomware attack will happen every two seconds, Cybersecurity Ventures predicts.

The most effective new tool fueling attacks is generative AI (GenAI). It gives criminals the ability to detect vulnerabilities, automate attacks and even impersonate members of a company to gain credentials and system access.

Hutchinson, CTO at Viking Cloud, believes that cyber teams can overcome industry pain points, close the technology gap and improve their resilience by leveraging GenAI. With 17 percent more CISOs this year believing GenAI offers a security advantage, many are leveraging it for network monitoring, automation, asset inventory and more.
