The time for proactive cyber defense was yesterday. By 2031, cybercrime will cost the global economy over $1 million in damages every 3 seconds, according to Cybersecurity Ventures. But the growth patterns tell a more interesting story.
Evolution Equity Partners believes that cybercrime is evolving from a “wild west” landscape to an optimized, industrialized economy.
Global cybercrime damage costs have been growing chaotically but is expected to stabilize. Evolution breaks down our prediction into three phases over 15 years:
Early Phase (2015-2021): ~16.7 percent annual growth;
Mid Phase (2021-2025): ~18.75 percent annual growth
Late Phase (2025-2031): Stabilizing at 2.5 to 3 percent annual growth.
Cybercrime is reaching industrial efficiency. This isn’t good news. We no longer fight chaos but an industrialized, efficient machine extracting maximum value with minimum effort.
Evolution’s mission is to support discerning entrepreneurs who choose the battle to defend and protect what matters most. Listen to Richard Seewald, founder and Managing Partner at Evolution, for regular insights on the quarterly Cybercrime Magazine Podcast Venture Capital Report.
