Sausalito, Calif. – Nov. 4, 2024

On the last day of Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CAM), Oct. 31, Cybersecurity Ventures released “Hackerpocalypse: The Human Risk”, on its Cybercrime Magazine YouTube channel.

“Apocalypse” has come to be used popularly as a synonym for catastrophe, but the Greek word apokálypsis, from which it is derived, means a revelation. “Hackerpocalyse” can refer to a coming cyber catastrophe, or a revelation. Our documentary is the latter.

“Knowledge is power in the war against cybercrime,” says Steve Morgan, founder of Cybersecurity Ventures. “We’ll be promoting the 13-minute video all year round in order to drive as much awareness as possible every month, and not just in October.”

“When we talk about human cyber risks, we’re talking about the everyday decisions and small oversights that open doors to attackers,” says Ozan Ucar, founder of Keepnet Labs, a sponsor of the documentary. “Technology is critical, but it’s the human element—awareness, vigilance, and resilience—that turns the tide. We need to empower employees, from the front desk to the C-suite, to recognize these threats. Only then can we build a culture where security is second nature, and every individual becomes an active defense against cyber threats.”

Cybersecurity Awareness Month was launched by the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in Oct. 2004. Lisa Plaggemier, Executive Director at NCA appears in the Hackerpocalypse production alongside Ucar, founders from Protexxa and OutThink, also sponsors of the video, and several CISOs from Fortune 500 companies.
