02 Sep Nev Schulman, Host of MTV’s “Catfish: The TV Show,” on Romance Scams, AI, & Real Estate.
This week in cybersecurity from the editors at Cybercrime Magazine
Sausalito, Calif. – Sep. 2, 2026
Nev Schulman directed the popular 2010 documentary film “Catfish” and he was host of MTV Oy’s “Catfish, The TV Show” (2012-2025), which explored people’s real-life trials with online dating and often unmasked the true identities of romance scammers.
Today, Schulman works as a real estate agent for New York City-based Coldwell Banker Warburg, and while his work with scam victims has slowed down, the scammers haven’t.
Schulman sat down with Cybercrime Magazine to reflect on “Catfish” in an era of rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), as well as the evolving landscape of real estate scams. “I hate to say it,” he told us. “But you have to assume every communication could be a scam.”
