In the new and already popular Cybercrime Magazine Podcast series “Ask Me Anything,” brought to you by Pipl AMA, the AI investigator, we get to do exactly that with former White House CIO Theresa Payton. This week we asked what it was like in the early days of digital investigations.
Payton, an expert on the topic, played deputy commander of Intelligence on the CBS TV series “Hunted,” and she’s CEO at Fortalice Solutions, a global cybersecurity and digital investigations firm.
“The early days of digital investigations laid the foundation for the sophisticated tools and techniques that are available to us today,” says Payton, who described the period akin to the wild, wild west due to the lack of privacy laws and governance around online detective work. “We had to rely heavily on manual processes for data collection, analysis and preservation. This meant a lot of times painstakingly combing through physical documents and printed records.”
