In the 2023 movie “Starring Jerry As Himself,” a family documents how their Taiwanese immigrant father, Jerry Hsu, a recently divorced and retired Florida man, was recruited by the Chinese police to be an undercover agent.
The film’s director, Law Chen, and its producer, Jonathan Hsu (who is also Jerry’s son and plays himself), recently joined Cybercrime Magazine to give us the backstory on “Starring Jerry As Himself,” which was released last year.
A new 4-minute and 30-second video produced by Cybercrime Magazine combines footage from the movie and interview segments with Chen and Hsu.
“Everybody is the hero of their own movie. That’s a central conceit to the hybrid documentary,” according to the Austin Chronicle, which also reports that the film screened as part of the 2023 Austin Asian American Film Festival.
