If you’re a cybersecurity founder or CEO, or better yet a sales executive, and you want to know how a CISO feels about being cold-called, then watch this video.
Adam Keown, chief information security officer at Fortune 500 company Eastman, a global specialty materials company headquartered in Kingsport, Tenn., told Cybercrime Magazine that he won’t talk to vendors until they’ve been vetted by his team.
Keown, a highly respected CISO and former FBI special agent for more than 10 years, explained his aversion to cold calls: “The one thing I don’t like is when I get the email or the voicemail or the LinkedIn message that says tell me about all your strategies this year so that I can tell you how I can sell you my product.”
Gordon Lawson, CEO at Conceal, an Augusta, Ga.-based cybersecurity company, chimed in with a story about a business development representative who sent a note to one of Keown’s colleagues that said “you’ve been breached and you need us to help you” — which didn’t turn out well.
But something good comes out of everything. “This gives me a good idea for a new series — how to alienate CISOs,” said Steve Morgan, editor-in-chief at Cybercrime Magazine. Keown chuckled, and agreed to come back on as the guest expert. Stay tuned — that interview should be a doozy!
