The cloud is home to a dizzying amount of data. According to Cybersecurity Ventures, nearly half of the world’s data exists in external data centers, representing 200 zettabytes (or 200 trillion gigabytes).

Organizations looking to upload significant amounts of data to the cloud should take specific precautions to ensure they have the software tools and internal procedures to safeguard the integrity of their data and prevent fraud.

Data breaches are becoming an unfortunate fact of life across major cloud providers, which are an extremely attractive target to hackers and data crawlers. This makes assessing the recent security record of potential cloud providers all the more important. When storing in the cloud, companies should ensure their provider, whether large or small, has sufficient security measures to protect sensitive information from leaks and misuse.
