Cyber adversaries — the bad guys — are leveraging AI to infiltrate IT environments and compromise data on an unprecedented scale, writes Matt Loria, CEO of Auxiom, an IT and cybersecurity company, in a Crain’s Detroit Business opinion piece.

While some executives take this seriously, many CEOs remain on the sidelines, not fully embracing their responsibility to safeguard their technology and customers. Loria believes that without AI-powered cybersecurity solutions and full CEO support, businesses are bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Cybercriminals are outpacing companies’ prevention tactics by using AI to launch sophisticated, scalable attacks. According to Cybersecurity Ventures, global cybercrime costs are projected to reach $10.5 trillion annually by 2025, with AI-driven attacks playing a significant role.

In Loria’s view, we have to accept that cybercrime is a never-ending war. We only “win” by protecting our businesses through preparedness. Business leaders must embrace AI not just for growth but as a shield against harm.
